Most Intriguing Big Ten Football TV Games Week 1

A ranking of this week’s television games that I personally find most intriguing, top to bottom.

All games Sept. 1 unless noted

Michigan at Notre Dame  6:30 PM  NBC

Best game on the Big Ten slate and I’m a lifelong Notre Dame fan, so win-win.

Northwestern at Purdue   7:00 PM  ESPN  Thursday, August 30

Conference game to start the season. Good matchup too. Could go either way, but I’m leaning towards Purdue.

Maryland  vs. Texas (Landover)   11:00 AM  FS1

Rematch of last season’s upset. I also like that it involves a high profile team in Texas. Bummer that Maryland’s program is in disarray right now.

Northern Illinois at Iowa   2:30 PM  BTN

I’ve got a feeling Iowa might struggle in this game. Maybe even lose.

New Mexico St. at Minnesota  6:00 PM  BTN  Thursday, August 30

This game kicks off the Big Ten season. I’m ready.

Akron at Nebraska  7:00 PM  FOX

I’m not as anxious as Nebraska fans, but I am curious to see how the team looks under the new coach.

Oregon St. at Ohio St.  11:00 AM  ABC

The matchups are starting to get less interesting at this point, so a game involving two power 5 teams rates by default. And we got the whole Urban Meyer debacle going on, so that adds some curiosity.

Kent St. at Illinois  11:00 AM  BTN

I’m curious about Illinois. I don’t think they’ll be a great team, but I think they might be better than most are expecting.

Utah St. at Michigan St.  6:00 PM  BTN  Friday, August 31

While I think they’ll be good, I’ve been saying Michigan St. won’t be as good as most are expecting. We’ll see.

Western Kentucky at Wisconsin  8:00 PM  ESPN  Friday, August 31

Not much of an opponent but I am interested in taking a look at possibly the best team in the Big Ten.

Appalachian State at Penn St.  2:30 PM  BTN

I’d be surprised if any of Penn St.’s starters on the field in the fourth quarter.

Texas Tech at Rutgers  11:00 AM  BTN

I do need to watch this one because I’ll be handicapping Rutgers vs. Ohio St. in week 2, but otherwise I don’t have much interest in this game.

Indiana at Florida International  6:00 PM  CBSSN

Ok, so actually this game is televised. Just not on a channel that I have access to. Or even heard of for that matter.
